These routes will be operated with Airbus aircraft, including a third plane received on February 1, thereby strengthening the airline’s fleet and operational capacity to meet growing demand in the sub-region. Established as a joint venture between the DRC (holding 51% of shares) and Ethiopian Airlines (49%) for its launch phase, Air Congo initially operated two Boeing 737-800 aircraft serving the Congolese cities of Lubumbashi, Goma, Kisangani, Kolwezi, Kalemie and Mbuji-Mayi.
During the official ceremony in the presence of President Félix Tshisekedi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Jean-Pierre Bemba pledged that
“Air Congo will strengthen its fleet with four additional Boeing 737-800 aircraft within less than one year and two more aircraft of the same category within the next two years. ”
Currently, the airline operates three Boeing aircraft, generating nearly USD 40 million in revenue. As part of its African expansion strategy, another aircraft is expected soon, bringing the fleet to four to serve both the DRC and other African cities, it was noted.
