The Kenya Airport Authority (KAA) has sounded an alarm over flight delays in all airports countrywide, urging passengers to check in with their airlines before heading out for their journeys.
On August 31, the departing flights across the country’s airports are currently running late.
“Kenya Airports Authority PLC wishes to advise passengers and other airport users that some departing flights are currently experiencing delays at our airports,” KAA stated.
KAA did not name specific airports or airlines affected, nor the cause of the delays, but the advisory appears to cover all airports currently under its management nationwide.
Passengers have been told to get in touch directly with their respective airlines for the latest flight updates, instead of assuming their original schedules still stand.
“Passengers are advised to contact their respective Airlines for the latest information on their flight status and to plan their journeys accordingly,” KAA added.
For normalcy to resume, KAA says it is working hand in hand with relevant aviation agencies, airlines, and other stakeholders to contain the disruption.
The goal, according to the authority, is to minimise inconvenience to travellers and keep airport operations flowing as smoothly as possible under the circumstances.
This incident adds to the growing list of flight delays experienced in the country’s airports over the past several months. On August 17, surging passenger volumes overwhelmed JKIA’s capacity, causing hours-long queues at immigration and check-in.

The most compounding impact of flight disruptions this year has been from the regular strikes from the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU), which cripple air traffic control systems, grounding numerous flights and stranding hundreds of passengers at Terminal 1A.
With this latest disruption, KAA has since apologised for the inconvenience, acknowledging the frustration this may cause travelers with flights scheduled out of the country’s airports today.
