President Museveni yesterday commissioned the electric fence in Kirugu Sub county, Rubirizi District along the boundary of Queen Elizabeth National park.
The 10 km long fence is envisaged to help communities around Rubirizi to deter elephants and other wildlife from ravaging community gardens.
The president thanked the Ministry of Tourism and UWA for erecting the fence and cautioned the communities against working against conservation.
He observed that tourism is critical to the economy because it has surpassed coffee and other agricultural activities in earnings and therefore needs safe guarding.
He promised that in future cameras will be installed along the fence to ease surveillance
